Will your nonprofit survive?

2009 was a hard year for nonprofits! Arts organization after arts organization had to cancel programming, cut staff, freeze pay or close their doors altogether. None have been immune from trouble and these challenges are going to continue well into 2010 and beyond.

In addition, many foundations now require you to provide a strategic plan for your organization when submitting a funding application!

In the current economic climate, no arts nonprofit can simply live from day-to-day. You have to think about the future in order to survive and that is the main role of strategic planning:
where are you now + where do you want to be = how are you going to get there

By enrolling on the Fundamentals of Strategic Planning Workshop you will learn the key tools and techniques that will help you create and develop a strategic plan.

Workshop Objectives:

At the end of this 1-day workshop, you will be able to:

  • Describe what strategic planning is and list the common components of a strategic plan
  • Describe the role that strategic planning plays in the long-term success of your organization
  • Identify why strategic planning is different from other forms of planning
  • Develop strategic thinking skills
  • Work though the key stages of strategic planning:
  • Assess the current environment
  • Develop your mission and vision for the future
  • Identify strategic issues and make strategic choices
  • Implement your strategic plan
  • Identify methods to involve key stakeholders
  • Describe common obstacles to strategic planning and ways to overcome them

Who's it for?

This workshop will help you if you are totally new to the world of strategic planning or if you need a solid refresher course. If you have been involved in a strategic planning process in the past but have never really understood the procedure or forgotten the step-by-step process, then this workshop is for you.
