In 2000 a small group of enthusiastic Boston business leaders who realized the importance of professional development for their employees and desired to play a role in improving the climate for the arts in Greater Boston established the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston (A&BC/Boston). It became the fifteenth affiliate in the nationwide network under New York's Arts & Business Council, Inc. that builds stronger cooperation between arts organization and business executives.
A&BC/Boston's initial offering consisted of Business Volunteers for the Arts-the cornerstone program of each affiliate office-along with Business On Board and the National Arts Marketing Project, which together serve both the arts and the business communities. Within three years, the organization grew to 7 programs by adding Board Development, the MetLife Foundation National Arts Forums, Creativity Connection, and Artist's Professional Toolbox-the first program to serve individual artists.
A&BC/Boston is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization and is housed at Exchange Place in the financial district of Boston thanks to the generosity of Goodwin Procter LLP.

The national office merged with Americans for the Arts, a public sector advocacy organization, in February 2005. |
